Only one section, Article 15 of the Paraguayan Drug Law No. 357, dated September 1972, specifically mentions possession of dangerous drugs. It prescribes imprisonment from one to five years for anyone in possession of dangerous drugs. However, persons who have in their possession only "a minimal quantity of such drugs for exclusively personal use" may be subjected to a different section of a law which prescribes rehabilitation and medical treatment at a care center rather than imprisonment.
Other sections of law which concern production, sale of drugs, promotion of drug use, and trafficking, prescribe imprisonment ranging from six months to 12 years depending on the type of crime.
